What might have been the perfect day
drops heavy to night
What we could have made a perfect year
everyone just lets it die

There's a strange kind of future here
just on the edge of sight
and then a thousand dead birds drop
down from the sky

Can you read the fine print on this missive?
The world could be sending you a message

But what it's ignoring is
how confusing all of this still is
despite the weight
of the evidence

Life's questions aren't any closer to answered
for the owner of a pile of dead birds

All of this
might be meaningless
not the world
or the year
just the mess
though we'll need a rake I guess
